IndieWeb or Why I started blogging
A few months ago I stumbled across a search engine called Marginalia. This search engine prioritizes small websites. Personal ones. I was curious and started using it, and loved what I saw. I honestly thought that the days of people creating their own websites were long gone. I though the only personalized ones were old ones still running but long abandoned. I loved people creating content for content's sake. They were writing blogs, forums, picture galleries, games, and more, because they wanted to.They didn't do it because they wanted money, because they wanted brand deals, or because they needed that dopamine hit. So I started using it, (that and I found wiby which is similar). I went searching for blogs, games, interactive sites, and more with this wonderful search engine. I stumbled across a few blogs that inspired me. I still read them, and I am finding more. They inspired me to create my own. So, I looked around for various 'blog-starting' websites. I did settle on bearblog because of its simplistic nature, its non-profit values, and its stated permanence. I will learn how to properly use HTML5, CSS, and Javascript one of these days. I think I would enjoy building a website for me.
Another thing that got me to blog was the idea of "enshittification." This idea has been making the rounds, and I think its enticing as an idea. Platforms start as great, then they start going behind the backs of their clients/content creators, and then its shit. While I was browsing the Indieweb I did come across this idea, and It inspired me to do better. To search for good content, to make good content, and to keep it good. Is this the best blog in the world? no, but its mine. And that's how I will make it good and keep it good.
